Housing

Antioch has reserved a limited number of rooms at two hotels in downtown Santa Barbara: Hotel Santa Barbara and Hotel Indigo. Because the week of the Writing Institute is also the beginning of the annual Fiesta celebration in Santa Barbara, we advise you to make housing arrangements as soon as possible. Fiesta is the city’s biggest event of the year and hotels fills up quickly. It’s best to call the hotels directly, and mention Antioch SWI.

  • Hotel Santa Barbara is offering rooms with one queen bed for $189 on weekdays and $239 on Friday and Saturday nights. The hotel requires that guests stay two nights over the Fiesta weekend, so the group rate is for Sunday, July 28, through Sunday, Aug. 4, even though the Institute ends on Saturday, Aug. 3. If you want to explore Santa Barbara for an extra day and enjoy a bit of Fiesta, this might be a good option. Reservations must be made with the hotel directly (888-259-7700) and before May 28, 2013. Make sure you ask for the Antioch SWI block rate.
  • Hotel Indigo offers rooms with a king bed for $197 on weekdays and $299 on the weekend (note, it’s Fiesta). This rate is good through Saturday, Aug. 3; you do not need to stay the extra night to get the block rate. Call the hotel for reservations before June 28, 2013 (805-966-6586).

Hotels are expensive in Santa Barbara, so you might consider sharing a room with a friend. Or bring your significant other and make it a vacation as well!

Travel

The Santa Barbara airport (SBA) serves all the major carriers. You can also fly into Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and either rent a car and drive up the coast (it is only about 90 miles, and a beautiful drive) or you can buy a ticket on the Santa Barbara Airbus. Another option is to come by Amtrak. The train station is near the beach, about six blocks from campus.
