Program Goals

The Psy.D. Program in Clinical Psychology with a Family Psychology Emphasis was developed to produce well-trained clinicians within a scholar-practitioner model using the core competencies of the National Council of Schools and Programs of Professional Psychology (NCSPP) and the standards of the American Psychological Association (APA). The program builds on Antioch University Santa Barbara's outstanding local reputation for providing quality education at the Master's level.

Key elements include:

  • An educational approach integrating theory and practice
  • Training emphasizing the socio-political impact of systems (family, community and cultural) on the individual
  • Antioch's appreciation of the diversity of human experience
  • A focus on developing critical thinking skills
  • Preparation for the role of the professional psychologist
  • Development of skills for work in the family forensic arena
