Doctor of Business Administration passes critical milestone toward launch
AUSB's unique new Doctor of Business Administration degree (with an emphasis on international business) has been fully approved by the Academic Leadership Group and University Leadership Council of Antioch University. The program will be reviewed by the Board of Trustees in June, 2008, and then passed for review to WASC, our accrediting agency. It is anticipated that a WASC review will be concluded by the beginning of fall quarter, 2008. Contact Dr. Esther Lopez-Mulnix at emulnix@antiochsb.edu for more information.
In addition, a number of exciting new program possibilities are being planned for Antioch University Santa Barbara. The AUSB community has categorized these into three different stages of planning/implementation, as follows:
Advanced
- Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Writing for the Visual Media including: screenplay writing, playwriting, applied digital media, songwriting, and creative non-fiction. A concept paper was presented spring of 2007 to the Academic Leadership Council and University Leadership Council. Market research has been completed. A joint agreement is planned with the Santa Barbara Writer’s Workshop. Anticipated starting date is summer, 2008.
- Doctor of Business Administration (DBA). Anticipated implementation date is fall, 2008. Until then, pre-DBA courses are being offered in the current MAOM program, in sports management and international business. Please refer to the MAOM degree for details.
- Nursing. At the request of the
CEO of Cottage Health Care System in Santa Barbara, Antioch is conducting a feasibility study for an RN to BSN nursing program. Students who have completed their two-year RN program would then be eligible for this advanced nursing program.
- International students. A new Office of International Programs has been started and students will be taking primarily courses in the Master’s in Organizational Management (MAOM) program. A cohort of Taiwanese students arrives in July, another cohort in October, and a third cohort in December. Undergraduate students from Norway arrive in September and a group of German executives arrive in October. Additional efforts are underway in India, Malaysia and more.
- Law. Discussions are ongoing with the President and Dean of the Southern California
Institute of Law (SCIL) with campuses in Ventura and Santa Barbara. The
SCIL is interested in merging with Antioch University Santa Barbara.
- Peace Studies/Conflict Resolution. Initial discussions have been held regarding the possibility of starting a program in this area.
Intermediate
- Applied Animal Behavior.
Human-Animal Studies/Anthrozoology: An undergraduate concentration in
the field of Human-Animal Studies is in the early stages of
development. This area of concentration within the Bachelor of Arts
in Liberal Studies degree will provide an interdisciplinary perspective
on the emerging field of animals and society. In addition we are
exploring a master's degree in either Anthrozoology (the relationship
between human and non-human animals from various theoretical
perspectives of anthropology) or Applied Animal Behavior (the
intersection of psychology and social work with behavioral theory and
training).
Contact the Office of Admissions for more information on any of these programs under develepment.
