The Antioch MAOM program is highly participative, with ample experiential learning opportunities, and many bridges between the classroom and the field. We create processes and structures that cause students to take ownership of their educational journey, their development, and their total graduate experience. We believe our students should:
- Commit to proactively owning their education. This also means fighting against passively “receiving” their education from experts and institutions.
- Develop into skilled practitioners in the field of management, getting as close as possible to becoming “master managers.”
- Develop stronger intellects, with greatly enhanced abilities to hold multiple perspectives and engage in critical appraisal.
- Develop into life-long learners with sharpened abilities to “learn how to learn.”
An Master of Arts in Organizational Management degree is what some coin an 'alternative to the M.B.A.'. An MAOM program provides students with a management and leadership focus, rather than just general business curriculum.
The MAOM curriculum educates professionals for competency in the following areas:
- Critical thinking and writing
- Business presentations
- Management consulting
- Team effectiveness
- Negotiation and conflict resolution
Additionally, Antioch has created a mentoring model of teaching. Students receive personalized feedback throughout their program across a curriculum that includes lectures, discussions, group work, simulations, and field-based projects. These projects place students into real-world environments and require them to apply critical thinking skills to decision-making situations. Each project offers learners the opportunity to identify the information required to solve the problem, assess alternative solutions, and receive feedback on their choices.
