Master of Arts in Education

Fall 2013: Accepting final applications–Apply today!  Classes begin October 7th.

Admission Criteria:

  • Online Application on VIP page
  • $60 application fee
  • Official transcript from a regionally-accredited college or university indicating Bachelor’s degree conferral
  • Two letters of recommendation (see guidelines on VIP page) – Recommendation Form
  • Resume
  • Admission essay

Please send your completed essay as an email attachment (.doc, .docx, .pdf, or .rtf) to:, with the following in the email subject line:  first & last name, MA in Education Program.  Please use the following format guidelines: 12-point type, double-spaced, 1″ margins, top right header on every page (in all capital letters): first and last name, MAE, page number.

Please respond to the following questions in 4-5 pages. Please note that Question #7 is only required if your undergraduate GPA is below 2.8.

1.  What factors led you to apply to the Master of Arts in Education program at this time and how will the degree impact your professional goals?
2.  What opportunities have you had for leadership in your community and employment settings?
3.  What experiences have you had that prepare you to work with people who differ from yourself?
4.  Describe a difficult situation you have had; evaluate your handling of the situation, revealing any personal characteristics that enabled you to be an effective part of a solution.
5.  Please comment on your experience or interests in working toward or organizing for social change.
6.  How do you see yourself contributing to a more equitable educational system in our schools, the community, or the greater society?
7.  If your Bachelor’s degree cumulative GPA is below a 2.8 discuss the factors that contributed to your current GPA and how, specifically, you will mitigate those factors to be successful in graduate-level coursework at AUSB.

The program does not require that applicants submit G.R.E. scores.

Application review process:

Phase One – An application will be reviewed once the following are received by the Office of Admissions:

  • Admission application (including application fee or fee waiver)
  • Unofficial or official transcripts indicating Bachelor’s degree conferral from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Admission essay
  • Current resume
  • At least one letter of recommendation

Phase Two – Upon recommendation from Admissions Committee an applicant is scheduled for an interview with a member of the Admissions Committee. Interviews are generally less than one hour and are held on campus or via Skype.

Phase Three – Upon recommendation from the Admissions Committee applicant is notified via email (only) of an offer of admission.
