Sharleen O’Brien, PsyD, earned her doctorate from the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, where she focused on integration of eastern and western perspectives in the study of psychology. She completed a two- year predoctoral internship at the Community Institute for Psychotherapy emphasizing psychodynamic therapy, and is currently a licensed as a psychologist.

Prior to teaching at Antioch, she served for 2 years as the Clinical Director at New Beginnings Counseling Center in Santa Barbara, served as a consultant writer to the state of California Department of Mental Health for the development of a statewide suicide prevention plan, and worked at Santa Barbara County Alcohol, Drug, and Mental Health Services where she was engaged in community mental health program planning and assessment of the community mental health service delivery system.

Dr. O’Brien’s interests include integration of eastern and western approaches to healing and the study of psychology; Clinical supervision and the supervisory relationship; creativity; psychology and film; women in leadership; workplace culture.
