Dr. Kirsten Olson is a licensed psychologist in California and an adjunct faculty for the Master’s in Clinical Psychology program at Antioch University Santa Barbara. Originally from Baltimore from a family of teachers, she earned her M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Loyola University Maryland and her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Georgia. Her research and clinical work has focused on exposure to traumatic life events, post-traumatic stress, and mindfulness based cognitive therapy. Her predoctoral internship was completed at the University of Maine Counseling Center with her postdoctoral training at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Counseling and Psychological Services.
She is currently the Assistant Clinical Director at the University of California Santa Barbara, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). In addition to administrative oversight of the agency, Dr. Olson provides crisis intervention, psychological assessment, individual therapy, and a wide range of outreach services. She is a Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance and leads Mindfulness and Yoga for Wellness groups at CAPS. She supervises master’s and doctoral level psychologists-in-training in their APA-Accredited internship program. Dr. Olson conducts applied research at CAPS as well.
Prior to working in college health, Dr. Olson worked at the Baltimore VA Medical Center for five years. She continues her work with veterans and their families by providing clinical services, outreach, consultation, and training to the community on relevant issues. While she greatly enjoys clinical practice, supervision, and administration, teaching is her passion.
