Kathleen Barry, PhD, LMFT

Adjunct faculty

As a business professional, scholar, and community activist, Dr. Kathleen A. Barry is an unusual hybrid.  She began her career as an Executive Assistant and quickly rose to management positions.  She acquired an MBA with a specialization in Human Resources Management.  Her work in designing management and leadership programs, as well as developing strategies for conflict resolution and change management, drew her to the field of psychology, and she went on to earn two additional Masters degrees and a PhD.  She has enjoyed a variety of leadership roles, including management positions at Fortune 500 corporations, as the Chair of Strategic Planning for one of southern California’s top Family Resources Centers, as President of the Santa Barbara Chapter for Marriage and Family Therapists, as President of the Santa Barbara Chapter of the Association for Women in Communications, and as a prominent member of the Opus Archives and Research Center’s Board of Directors.  An active member of the Coordinating Council for La Casa de Maria Retreat Center in Santa Barbara, Dr. Barry plays a prominent role in advocating for many of the center’s social justice programs.
