Guy Smith, MA, completed his undergraduate studies at San Diego State University in English. He completed a Masters of Arts from SDSU and taught there from 1972-76 before coming to teach at Santa Barbara City College where for 34 years he served as a faculty member in English and Communications, and the Dean of Educational Programs responsible for the administration of the Business Division, the Scheinfeld Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, and the School of Media Arts which includes new media applications, game design, animation, film & television and journalism. He completed doctoral coursework in rhetoric and linguistics at the University of Southern California.

Prior to his appointment as Chair of the BA program, Mr. Smith served as the Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Antioch University Santa Barbara. He has taught in numerous disciplines including English, Communications, Media, and Business.
