How to Apply

Applicants to the B.A. in Liberal Arts must have completed a minimum of 30 semester units (45 quarter units) to enter the program from a regionally accredited institution. There is no math or science courses required for admission.Standardized tests are not required for admission, with the exception of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) for international student applicants whose native language is not English. Grade averages and the quality and content of previous academic work are evaluated, recognizing that an adult’s present capacities may not be reflected in grades earned long before or in fields unrelated to present interests.

Antioch University Santa Barbara particularly seeks qualified candidates who will contribute to building a student body diverse in gender, ethnicity, age, class, physical differences, learning styles, sexual orientation, professional backgrounds, and community experiences.

In one essay (no more than 2 pages), please answer the following:

1.  Deciding to complete your bachelor’s degree at AUSB is a major life step. Looking back on your life, what do you see as the major events, experiences, accomplishments, and failures that have brought you to where you are today?

2.  Looking forward, briefly describe your educational, career, and personal goals and how completion of an Antioch bachelor’s degree can help you accomplish those goals.

3.  Successful completion of the Antioch degree process requires the ability to be self-motivated and engage in independent learning. Drawing from similar situations in the past, how would you assess you ability to do independent learning?

4.  Successful participation in Antioch courses assumes that students possess (a) computer hardware and software appropriate for the coursework and (b) computer and Internet literacy. Describe how you will meet those two requirements by the start of your program.
