By evaluating your eligibility for a wide variety of available student financial aid programs, including student loans, we make every effort to ensure that any student who is accepted can attend.
Last year approximately seventy-five percent of our students received some form of financial aid. Applying for financial aid is easier than you think. Instructions for applying are included in this packet and application forms are available through our office or on our website.

Antioch considers several factors for financial aid eligibility. To qualify, you must:
- Demonstrate financial need (except for certain loans).
- Be enrolled at least half time in a degree or certificate program.
- Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
- Have a valid Social Security Number (unless you're from the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, or the Republic of Palau)
- Register with the Selective Service if required. You can register at www.sss.gov, or you can call 1-847-688-6888.
- Maintain satisfactory academic progress once in school.
- Certify that you are not in default on a federal student loan and do not owe money on a federal student grant.
- Certify that you will use federal student aid only for educational purposes.
Failure to meet eligibility requirements usually results in drastic alteration of Financial Aid awards and possible requirement to refund a Financial Aid award.
Undergraduate Financial Aid:
Federal Pell Grant
Federal grant that need not be repaid (for Undergraduate students only); based on financial need.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
Federal grant that need not be repaid (for Undergraduate students only); based on financial need.
Cal Grant
State grant that need not be repaid (for Undergraduate students only); based on financial need and grade point average. Cal Grant recipients will also need to provide a copy of their award letter (CAR) from the California Student Aid Commission.
Federal Work-Study Program (FWSP)
The Federal Work-Study program is a campus-based aid program, providing job opportunities on campus, for students who have established financial need through the submission of the FAFSA. Students must be enrolled at least half-time and maintain satisfactory academic progress.
Federal Perkins Loan
Low interest loan with delayed payback; based on financial need.
Federal Direct Loans
The interest rate is fixed each year. In 2010-2011 the interest rate for undergraduates students is fixed at 4.5% for the subsidized loan and 6.8% for the unsubsidized loan.
Parent PLUS loan
Parents of dependent students may apply for a Parent Plus loan, limited to the cost of attendance minus other financial aid received. Plus loans have an interest rate of 7.9%. Plus loan borrowers cannot have an adverse credit history (a credit check will be done). If you have an adverse credit history, you may still receive a Direct Plus loan is you obtain an endorser (someone who agrees to repay the loan if you do not). If you are a parent borrowing on behalf your dependent student, the endorser may not be the student on whose behalf the parent is applying for the loan.

All Students New and Continuing MUST Complete:
1. Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) 2011-2012
Be sure to include our school code (E00556) on your FAFSA.
Starting with the 2012-2013 FAFSA, there have been some changes. When filling out your 2012-13 FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov , students and parents of dependent students who indicate they filed federal income tax returns, are encouraged and advised to retrieve their IRS income data to populate the appropriate FAFSA field. The Department of Education has stated that if applicants choose not to use the IRS data retrieval process, before being allowed to proceed with completing the application, they will be informed that:
- Your application may be selected for verification
- If selected for verification, you will be asked to provide documentation obtained from the IRS – an IRS tax transcript will be required.
We advise students to first file their 2011 income tax returns and then wait two weeks before filing their 2012-13 FAFSA if they file their taxes electronically. If students file their tax return by paper, they should wait 6 to 8 weeks to file their FAFSA using the IRS data retrieval process.
Applicants who chose not to use the FAFSA –IRS Data Retrieval process, or who retrieve IRS data but subsequently change it, will be informed that they will need to explain to the financial aid office why information they provided is more accurate than the information that would have been obtained directly from the IRS and they may need to provide additional documentation.

See below for additional information about applying or a PLUS Loan.
PLUS Loans
To apply for a PLUS loan, go to https://studentloans.gov and complete the Request PLUS Loan form regardless of whether you have already filled out the PLUS Loan MPN. The Request PLUS Loan is a 4-step process required to initiate a credit check for the PLUS loan. Login using your Federal Student Aid PIN (the number you used to electronically sign your FAFSA.) The four steps are:
- Personal Information (if the borrower has a previous loan, many data fields will be pre-populated.)
- Student and Loan Information
- Review Application
- Credit Check and Submit
In addition to providing basic demographic information and completing a credit check, the Request PLUS Loan allows for borrower to provide certain information to the school including:
- Credit Balance Option – Parent PLUS borrowers can indicate whether the want any remaining credit balance to be paid to the parent or to the student.
- Award Amount Information – Borrowers can request a specific amount they wish to borrow, or can request the school determine the maximum amount they are eligible to receive by selecting the Maximum Amount Indicator
You will receive the results of a borrower-initiated credit check immediately while you are online. I f approved, you will be advised to completer a PLUS Loan MPN (unless one is already on file.) If you are not approved, you will be asked how you want to proceed, such as not pursuing a PLUS Loan, obtaining an endorser (co-signer), or appealing the credit decision.
Students who wish to take out a PLUS Loan and have already completed the PLUS loan MPN, must still complete the Request PLUS Loan form to apply for a PLUS Loan.
Direct PLUS Loan borrowers with credit appeals or endorser questions can also call the US Department of Education at 800.557.7394.
