Trustee Forum - Homeland SecurityHow can we balance homeland security and personal privacy? That is the question of AUSB’s spring Trustee Forum, as it will focus on the topics of homeland security, data collection, and personal privacy issues. This free, public event will be held on Tuesday, April 29 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at AUSB’s Community Hall, 602 Anacapa Street, downtown Santa Barbara.

The forum, the latest in a series of community events presented by AUSB, will feature conversation and public discussion with national security experts Andrew Liepman and Brian Michael Jenkins. Liepman is a career official with the Central Intelligence Agency, most recently as Principal Deputy Director of the National Counterterrorism Center and is currently a Senior Policy Analyst at the RAND Corporation. Jenkins is Senior Adviser to the President of the RAND Corporation and author of numerous books, reports, and articles on terrorism-related topics—he also served on the White House Commission on Aviation Safety and Security under President Clinton and as an adviser to the National Commission on Terrorism. The panel will be moderated by AUSB trustee and award-winning journalist Jerry Roberts

The interactive conversation will center around the complex issues raised by President Obama’s proposed reforms of policies governing the National Security Agency’s collection of the personal data of Americans and will explore how the disclosure of the top-secret material affects the nation’s battle against terrorism, U.S. defense and diplomacy, government power, and Internet and telecommunications privacy.
