Dr. Leffert Congratulates SBCC on Aspen Prize

On behalf of the University, AUSB President Dr. Nancy Leffert congratulates her colleague, Santa Barbara City College President Dr. Lori Gaskin, on SBCC co-winning the 2013 Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence last week.

The prestigious Aspen Institute selected SBCC, together with Walla Walla Community College in Washington State, for recognition from more than 1,000 public community colleges nationwide. Dr. Gaskin traveled to Washington, DC, on Tuesday, March 12, to accept the award from Second Lady Dr. Jill Biden.

“I sincerely congratulate Dr. Gaskin and SBCC on this extraordinary honor,” Dr. Leffert said. “With its highly regarded reputation and long history of excellence, City College truly deserves this level of recognition. We are proud that 70% of AUSB’s undergraduate students originally transferred from SBCC, due to the long-standing partnership between both schools. Our Bridge Program, which allows students to maximize completed credits and cost effectively earn their Bachelor’s degree at Antioch, is extremely popular.

“We look forward to many more years of collaborative education with SBCC.”
