At Antioch University Santa Barbara, you can now not only pursue higher learning, but you can also grab lunch at a higher altitude. Nestled next to the campus building’s rooftop patio is the new Book Ends Café, which was opened during the summer by owners Dominic Shiach and his wife, Carmen Deforest.

Book-Ends-Cafe2Book Ends Café serves up a select menu of sustainable and delicious gourmet salads, sandwiches, breakfast goods, and specialty drinks. All of their meats are organic, their produce is sourced from the farmer’s market or directly from local organic farms, and the bread and pastry selections are baked locally.

Book-Ends-Cafe1Students and the general public alike can enjoy a casual bite to eat and stunning views of downtown Santa Barbara. Book Ends can be accessed outside by the staircase leading up from Cota Street, or from inside the lobby by elevator.

You are invited to come dine inside or al fresco on the patio, Monday–Thursday, 8:00am–6:15pm, and Friday and Saturday, 8:00am–2:00pm.

  1. I tried this place with a friend after seeing a 5 star rating on Yelp…which is well-earned. The yummy brisket, salad and potatoes were far above average, thoughtfully seasoned and put together. I also appreciate having the beverage options of local kombucha, local organic coffees, Voss water, yerba mate and more. Sitting on a rooftop deck on a sunny day with the palm trees and the view of the mountains is an added bonus. Ill definitely come back.
