AWC-SB Hosts Discussion of Creative Commons on October 7 at AUSB

Have you ever wondered how to harness the power of creative collaboration without veering into plagiarism? The Association for Women in Communications – Santa Barbara chapter (AWC-SB) will host “What’s a Wiki? Creative Commons, a New Perspective on Intellectual Property” on Monday, October 7 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Antioch campus.

While students are routinely taught about “fair use” and how to avoid plagiarism, neither students nor faculty may be familiar with the work of Creative Commons and the ways to share creatively in collaboration with others, while still protecting intellectual property. Creative Commons’ mission is to enable the legal sharing and reuse of cultural, educational, and scientific works. To this end, they offer free and easy-to-use tools to creators and the public to assist them in harnessing the creativity that new technologies make possible.

Jane-ParkThis event, presented by Jane Park, Creative Commons project manager, is one of AWC’s series on Communicators Creating Community in the Virtual World.

AWC-SB proudly calls AUSB its home and invites all AUSB faculty and students to this program, held in Community Hall. Admission is $20 for the general public and free for AWC members. Register online at www.awcsb.org.
