The Sami: People of the Sun and Wind – A photo exhibit of the Sami people, in the land above the Arctic Circle – Lapland, Sweden

An exhibit of photographs by Birgette Aarestrup from her book 8 Seasons Above the Arctic Circle: The Sami of Lapland is on display at the AUSB campus. She has worked as a photographer for over thirty years, capturing and freezing unforgettable moments. Never posed, her photographs evoke profound mood and emotion while also telling an enduring story of a particular place and time. Her exhibit documents her personal journey of discovery among the Sami people, the only ethnic group in the European Union to be recognized as aboriginal, in the land above the Arctic Circle – Lapland, Sweden.

Author Brigette Aarestrup will sign her book  8 Seasons Above the Arctic Circle: The Sami of Lapland at 5 p.m. November 1 at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, 1130 State Street.

The exhibit will be open at AUSB through November 30. Free and open to the community, the hours are: Monday-Thursday 8:15am – 9:00pm, Friday – Saturday   8:15am – 5:00pm. The campus is closed Sundays and Holidays.
